IFS Chemicals lobbies supermarkets to help 'green' agendas

Roydon, Norfolk: IFS Chemicals, a formulation house which specialises in developing polyurethane chemicals for a wide cross-section of worldwide industries, is lobbying supermarket chains to demonstrate a significant opportunity for them to progress their  ‘green’ agendas.

IFS Chemicals produces a polyurethane material which is used as a highly efficient insulation for freezers, chill cabinets and refrigerators.  What marks it out from other methods of insulation is that this material is manufactured from a natural polyol produced from rapeseed oil.  Natural oils such as rapeseed, are easily replenished and use low levels of energy in their conversion to polyols.

“It follows that the purchase of equipment which incorporates an environmentally friendly material manufactured from a renewable source, gives the supermarkets an opportunity to make a significant environmental impact,” explains Dr Barrie Colvin, IFS Chemicals’ Managing Director.

“Customer demands dictate that no large supermarket chain can operate without extensive use of freezers and chilled and refrigerated cabinets, which by and large have few environmentally friendly credentials.  In today’s increasing ‘green’ climate, I believe it will help supermarkets to achieve their Corporate and Social Responsibility objectives to know that there are products on the market which are not only safe and reliable, but which can also contribute to the care of the environment.”

He goes on to say, “We have therefore made them aware of our products and manufacturing processes, in the hope that when the organisation makes its next purchase of refrigerated equipment, it will include environmentally friendly insulation material as part of its equipment specification.”

IFS Chemicals continues to lead the way in international environmental awareness associated with the chemical formulation of polyurethane materials.  Whilst the company is using the skill and expertise of its chemists to provide refrigerated equipment manufacturers with a ‘green’ insulation product; it now has to encourage the end-users to buy equipment which lives up to current environmental expectations.
