Polyurethane foam is an inherently buoyant material (at a density of 40kg/m3, 1 cubic metre will support a weight of 1 tonne) which is why it is widely used in the manufacture of buoys, booms and fenders. The foam is protected by a spray-applied PU elastomer, resistant to salt water, abrasion, and the growth of marine organisms.
In addition, with the outlawing of TbT in anti-fouling paints and coatings, IFS is actively developing tin-replacement additives for marine polyurethanes, and sea-trials to date have produced excellent results. Please contact us for further information.
